Second lecture - المحاضرة الثانية
feb 22nd, 2017
In this lecture we studied 3 important subject in Graphic Design
First: Design Thinking
It is a design methology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems.
Second: Layout And Folds
Space, balance And Hierarcky
Space:
Define Space:
Passive - Active.
Define White space:
Recessive - Dominant.
Define Balance:
Symmetrical - Asymmetrical - Noise.
Hierarchy:
Grouping - Color - Commonality - Orientation - Scale
Folds:
Mountain&Valley - Throw outs - Gatefold - French Fold - Concertina fold - Roll fold.
Third: Anatomy of Typography
Typography is the arrangement of any written material
There are tow main categories of type:
Serif - Sans Seif
Anatomy of typography:
Point Size - The mean line - The cap line - The X-high - Typeface - Font - Leading - Kerning - Tracking - Lowercase letters - Uppercase letters - Small caps - Ligature - Consistency - Hierarchy - Alignment - Guidelines - The grid.
Finally
We did 3 exercises
First:
1- I used A4 white paper
2- I did the Grid System
3- I used the grid to do the Symmetrical Layout
4- I styled the type which has more than one size
Second:
In another paper I've tried the Alternative Grid
Third:
1- I used the same Grid System as I used in the first exercise
2- I've designed a schedule
..
what I've learned from this lecture is that when I want to design anything there are some roles which I've already used,
such as: The Anatomy Of Typography and it's kinds and the spaces between the types, I've also learned a lot from Layout and Fold and Hierachy which is very affected my designs.
